Prof. Dr. Luigi Basso, Specialist in General Surgery and Colonproctology

Prof. Dr. Luigi Basso, is a Specialist in General Surgery since 1989 and holds a Diploma in both Coloproctology and in Minimally Invasive Surgery. Prof. Basso is an Associate Professor at  "Sapienza" Università di Roma ("Sapienza" University of Rome). He is a University Surgeon at Policlinico "Umberto I" of Rome, and is a Founding Member of the "Società Italiana di Chirurgia Colo-Rettale" (SICCR) or "Italian Society of Colorectal Surgery, founded in Florence on October 25th, 2003.

Prof. Dr. Basso is an author of more than 100 international publications, many of these in highly "impacted" scientific journals. Although he has made many scientific and clinical experiences in the field of General Surgery in Italy and abroad (Colorectal Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Abdominal Surgery, etc.), over the years he has committed to proctology and coloproctology.  In particular, he has developed a special interest in pilonidal disease (pilonidal cyst), and has promoted the minimally invasive surgical approach to treat this condition, for which he has become a nationally and internationally renowned landmark for patients and surgeons approaching treatment of  this condition.

Prof. Dr. Basso, on top of pilonidal disease,  is also an expert in the field of all the most common proctological conditions, such as haemorrhoids (piles), anal fissures, anal pain, anal fistulae and sepsis, etc.
